Please read and savor this moment. My thoughts will follow from an Indian-American perspective, for now let me just say that I wept a bit.

My thoughts on Obama's win from an Indian-American perspective. 

Always identify and express solidarity with those who suffered for centuries. When millions cried in joy on Nov 4th it's hard to hold back your tears. Consider this. The 3rd president of USA, Thomas Jefferson, said 

 "I advance it, as a suspicion only, that the blacks, whether originally a distinct race, or made distinct by time and circumstances, are inferior to the whites in the endowments both of body and mind." 

Height of hypocrisy is that he was also the author of the famous statement, "All men are created equal." After those barbaric words were spoken it took another 200 years of struggle to escape the shackles of slavery and 40 presidents later Obama proved him emphatically wrong! That's the measure of significance of this event!

Make no mistake. First and foremost my pro-Obama stance was mostly due to Bush's cowboy politics. Second was the historic opportunity to "shock and awe" racists. Thirdly between McCain and Obama the latter seemed to be slightly better candidate as he tried to define himself in terms of vision while the former had nothing to offer even in terms of vision. Both had nothing to offer in concrete, the country is in such a mess taking any clear cut stance is risky!

Bush squandered my goodwill and the goodwill of millions around the world the moment his "global war on terror" became "global war on terror hurting US interests only, others be damned!". Worse he contributed to terror by promoting Missionary Terrorism in India. To be frank and it's not farfetched to say that he also contributed to Islamic Terrorism indirectly - With misguided Iraq war it became a fertile ground for Al-Qaeda to recruit more muslims in their Jihad against western interests. No wonder that Al-Qaeda endorsed McCain!

Thanks to economic woes and stock market crashes - Obama won - that's what ultimately tipped the election in his favor.

I was not all that surprised with Obama win once it happened. McCain being a fellow Republican and by "voting with Bush 90% of the time" and admitting to "we'll lose if we keep talking about the economy" had almost no chance! In fact the only derailing factor would have been the so called Bradley affect. But Latinos, Blacks, Asians, Youth, Women alongwith NORMAL whites - all banded together to defeat the RACIST whites ( who mostly identify with Republicans! They claim only they are "real" Americans! or Palin speak for "pro"-Americans!)  Also money speaks big time ..with dwindling  401K balances everything else took a backseat. So something as terrible as this economic tragedy had to happen for something as good as Obama win to happen. So be it. In fact I am hoping the world's largest Terror enterprise - the Missionary enterprise will slow down it's funding of terrorism overseas. When devout Christians attend churches on Sundays and pay tithe in the name of God hardly they realize some of their money ends up in sponsoring Missionary Terrorism. I don't think they ever ask. So it's better that tithe gets affected by economic hardship. But if tithe is used to improve American or Christian lives I am all for it. Live and let Live. Obama in his victory speech said - "True strength of our nation comes not from the might of our arms or the scale of our wealth, but from the enduring power of our ideals: democracy, liberty, opportunity and unyielding hope." Truer words were never spoken before. It is in line with dharma and Hindu thought, the world will be watching!  America should lead by example with Righteousness and not by might of the military or cloak of humanitarian work.

Before the election early on I definitely did not dislike McCain. He had few qualities worth being admired about. He was at least 10% against Bush. Considering the 2 party system there's no alternative but to hang in there as Republican, his only handicap. There was no way a Republican could get elected again unless Americans embraced racism, fear, suspicions, robocalls etc., In the desire and desperation to win his character stooped low; with Palin as VP pick he had a marriage of convenience to pander to the religious right. I was impressed to learn that McCain had rightly called Jerry Falwell as "Agent of Intolerance". Kudos to him then. But I was disappointed to learn that he flip-flopped later. Shame on him. Republicans cannot survive without Right wingers?! When the World is moving towards pluralism and tolerance how can America remain backward. That does not seem like "Country First" slogan to me. Anyway Obama win shocked evangelical right royally, end of the world for them?! Begininning of peaceful world for the rest of us shall we say. No! No! don't be too hopeful, these lunatics don't disappear that easily and that soon. World's largest enterprise that's on crusade for 2000 years will continue in every shape and form. 

What's this deal about Obama win that could happen ONLY in America. Absolutely FALSE!

This is the problem with grand American ignorance sometimes. They either don't know the world or don't care to know the world or ignore there is better out there in the world even if they know pandering to the typical "only we're the best" propoganda. In fact America has a long way to go. Even after 300 years it does not have a non-Christian president. Neither a woman president yet. India has had Sikh, Muslim and Christian leaders!  Women too. Thanks to Hindu way of life practiced by majority there.  Here is a reply. Obama may differ in race but he still is a Christian. So far the presidents have been only "White Caucasian Christian Males". Only the racial barrier is broken. The day when America will be truly democratic will be the day when a non-Christian is elected to the highest office. Put in another way - only merit should matter.  That will be the day when true seperation of Church and State happens. Then people like Bobby Jindal don't have to convert to Christianity  just to become a successful politician. By the way he is another backward looking conservative Republican with plans to lead the confused GOP going forward, his name is being touted around in the news! He is definitely NOT one of us, a suspicious character.
